The baler came Friday. Such excitement!
We rushed right out to take some photos as the bales are picked up right away.
Nine bales total. We’ve had better, we’ve had worse.
We’ll have to wait for the puny second cutting to get our fix again. Until then, The Boy has his toy farm equipment out and is swathing, raking and baling all the rugs. Sure is hard work! Whew! But this year his Baby Sister is helping which helps ease the burden.
I am always amazed at how much The Boy resembles Col. Panic. Yes, they all three resemble both of you in some ways, and of course one would expect a boy to look like his father. But the shot of the children atop the hay bale in which The Boy has one hand on his hip and one leg crossed over the other is an extreme example of a boy looking like his dad. I believe somewhere there’s a picture of Col. Panic in almost precisely the same pose, but as an adult and leaning against some kind of metal object (red truck? red combine? maybe a white pickup truck?). The similarities are remarkable.
On another note, if these children get such a fix from nine bales, imagine how addicted they’d be if they were to visit a certain set of conventional combines with hay balers running in their wake across circle after circle of barley in southern Colorado…
