What does one do when one is planning on having chicken for dinner but doesn’t get it out of the freezer so it can thaw because one can thaw it in the microwave– forgetting that the microwave is a dead, lifeless hunk on the counter?
Think vegetarian.
Quickly, because it’s4:30.
I had a lovely Mothers Day.
Really.
It is often one of those days that gets lost in the Chaos of May around here. An attempt is made by my Loving Husband to recognize the Mother of his children (that’s me!) but it is usually a special hug and a prodding of the children to say “Happy Mothers Day!”. Believe it or not, I am content with that.
This year, I got a lovely card from him, coffee brought to me in bed, a large bottle of Arbor Mist Peach Wine (only the fancy stuff around here!) AND a Blue Tooth headset. So now I can get ripped and drunkenly talk on the Internet for free. LOL! If you believe that, we need to talk. Also a lovely meal out at Taco Bell- we really know how to live it up.
Loving Husband came at me with a strange thing in his hand, I saw a blue light flashing and as he tried to put it over my ear; I exclaimed “Is it Blue Tooth?” He was surprised that I knew what that was, so was I. He hooked it up and got Boo Boo on the computer. What fun!
We are getting so high tech with Fast Internet service and Blue Tooth. But I still have to heat up my coffee on the stove. The poor, dead rotting hulk of a microwave still lurking on the counter is a sad reminder of what was.
Caveat: We haven’t had time to go shopping for one yet. The choices in town are very poor so we will have to travel out of town to get one. I just like to sound pitiful.
KJ has figured out how to pump herself on the swing! What fun!
Hans learned when he was a month from being four and he still loves to swing high- then jump out.
KJ is four and a half so she was a little slower in learning it but I also didn’t work too much with her on it. She’s been having fun swinging away out there.
The aliens have left. They were only here for a short while.
They flew off and took their politeness with them.
I am not sure if I am happy or sad.
I drink coffee slowly. I don’t know why, just do. I have an insulated cup to keep it warm longer but it still gets cold before I get it down. When this happens, I heat it up in the microwave.
Except today, my coffee is cold and my microwave is deceased.
Gosh!
I had to warm it on the stove. I felt like I was in the Stone Age.
“I want more!” is the usual way my kids ask for things. If I ask if they want something, I might get a nod or a grumbled answer of some sort. Sometimes I interpret the answer wrong and then, oh the hysteria. We’ve tried to teach them to use please and thank you but after a brief time before they are three these words fly from their brains and only return with parental prompting. It’s just Mom, ya know, and you don’t need to be polite. This morning something strange happened when I asked KJ if she wanted her Fish cup, she replied:
“It would be a pleasure to have my Fish cup.”
Aliens have taken over my child.
A Companion of ours has passed.
A Faithful Companion, standing by us from the very beginning of our marriage. Moving with us to Kansas and sharing the small, 28 foot travel trailer bunkhouse, never complaining. Even when mistreated or under-appreciated this Companion faithfully worked with us. Back to Oregon in the back of the pickup, regulated to the small apartment when we first moved here. Then on to our first house, where operations were difficult but somehow we continued our relationship, ever watchful to not step on toes.
But those days are over now Our Friend was fine in the morning then making strange sounds and smelling at lunch, now standing silent after 16 plus years. Sigh.
Is it silly to cry over a Microwave?
I’m going through withdrawal and it hasn’t been twenty four hours yet.
The thing you use in the dark to light your way.
Not something you sweep the floors with but-
something you apply makeup with.
At almost three (in two weeks!) my baby, Talia, is speaking very well. She has expanded her vocabulary and is speaking whole thoughts and sentences although sometimes haltingly as if she is having to keep her mouth up with her mind. It’s fun to hear. Especially when that little mouth gets large words out- like cucumber and actually.
Ever notice how little kids will mimic what they hear the most? Hans said “probably” quite a bit and Kirsten says “well” frequently. I wonder where they hear those words?
Last night there was a thunder and lightning storm. Not the kind one would see in the central part of the United States but a mild Oregon one. There was flashes of light and the low rumble of thunder off in the distance. The kids were running around the house looking out different windows when I realized that Talia probably had not seen a storm before. I watched her as she wandered into the kitchen and asked if she was ok. Her answer was priceless.
“Perhaps I’m scared.”
